Hey, it’s mid week and that means its time for my weekly column to be posted up. This week, I will be talking about my first time experience in watching Ring of Honor wrestling, and yes it was the Best in the World iPPV. The reaso why I got into watching it was actually reading another column online, so I said I may as well ‘’Give it a shot’’, so I did and I was impressed. Now, I’m not very knowledgeable on ROH wrestling, but I will give you my full views on it. Ok, so here we go!
As it was my first time watching ROH’s product, I had an idea on what to expect, I expected quality wresting and I witnessed on my TV screen not just wrestling, but a full show of professional wrestlers giving their fans their money worth and putting their heart into what they love, prowrestling. When I watched these guys, it was a completely different connection I saw with the fans that we would see with WWE or TNA. Now nothing against WWE or TNA, both WWE and TNA are pretty established companies so watching ROH in my opinion I could see more heart in what they did. They were showing that they were the ‘’Best in the World’’ at what they did. The pure wrestling was phenomenal.
Aside from the wrestling in it, there was other piece’s that caught my attention and would keep me interested in watching their product. The commentary team of Kevin Kelly and Dave Prazak are a great joy to listen to. When tuning into WWE or TNA, the commentary team don’t really focus on calling the match as they tend to talk about the storylines behind it, or if you’re Michael Cole you have your own freaking segment time! Kevin Kelly and Dave Prazak are what I call a commentary team. They remind me of McMahon and Gorilla Monsoon. Another great attraction to ROH for me was their tag team match. It lasted around an hour, and I don’t think there was one point during the match where I was fed up or said to myself ‘’when will this end’’. ROH’s tag team wrestlers were amazing, and seeing the likes of Haas and Benjamin in that match, I knew I was going to see terrific performances. So I witnessed a terrific match. Now, if I watched an hour of WWE/TNA tag team contest, I would probably….well I don’t know what I would do, but I would be bored as hell. So I was happy to see a great 5 star tag team match again, as it has been far too long. I almost forgot what a great tag team match was all about. Oh, did I forget to mention the likes of Colt Cabana and Davy Richards was interesting to see the first time. I still don’t know much about these guys, but they are really good wrestlers. Colt Cabana’s match that opened up the show was one the bets PPV show openers I witnessed in a long time. I found he was indeed entertaining, and he was too popular for Tomasso Ciampa as the crowd seemed a little dead for him. Richards and Edwards had an awesome match. It was possibly in my top 5 matches in the last 5 years I have seen in prowrestling. Great 5 star contest. Although they may not be as big or will ever sell as much as HBK or Undertaker, the wrestling was superb in this match. It was as good as HBK vs Kurt Angle at Wrestlemania 21. Also, even though I haven’t been following the storylines or weeks coming up to the event, during the whole main event match, Richards and Edwards were showing what ‘that’ title means to wear it around their waists. The title had prestige unlike in WWE and TNA as it gets passed around like a whore in a brothel. I was routing for Richards to win, I just know more about him than Edwards, but half way during the match, I didn’t care who the winners were, they were both winners to me. Then after the match, it was a really well heart warmed speech, I felt after watching it, man this guy knows how to perform a 5 star wrestling match and shoot an awesome promo.
So, I think it is right to say that ROH has gained at least one more fan since the Best in the World iPPV. These guys are not a Mickey Mouse promotion just in case you are unaware of what ROH are about, they are the real deal. And let me say this to you now, if they outgrow firstly TNA within this decade, I for one would not be surprised as they are winning over WRESTLING (There, I said it WWE) fans. When I look at WWE taking wrestling out of their name, I think it is a disgrace to prowrestling. But, Vince knows what he is doing. Anyway that’s a separate issue. I see big things happening for this promotion in the near future, and hopefully we will see big competition arising within the next few years from WWE, TNA and ROH. This is what prowrestling need!
That’s it for this week folks. I hoped you loved this column and it was the first column that I did in one go. It took me about 3 hours to complete, I really enjoyed writing this in particular since it was my first time watching Ring of Honor. I recommend watching ROH, it has some really great wrestling in it, and mark my words, its going to be a big company some day. Check out ROH on their website – http://www.rohwrestling.com/ again, thanks for reading and take care!
