In case you have been living under a rock for the past few weeks…

The Stop Online Piracy Act
“The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) would ruin so much of what’s best about the Internet: They will give the government and corporations new powers to block Americans’ access to sites that are accused of copyright infringement, force sites like YouTube to go to new lengths to police users’ contributions, and put people in prison for streaming certain content online.”

We here at Wrestling Rambles do not condone piracy, however if this bill does pass, sites like this, and many more are in danger. If this act passes it will allow censorship of the internet,

PROTECT IP Act Breaks The Internet from Fight for the Future on Vimeo.

PROTECT-IP is a bill that has been introduced in the Senate and the House and is moving quickly through Congress. It gives the government and corporations the ability to censor the net, in the name of protecting “creativity”. The law would let the government or corporations censor entire sites– they just have to convince a judge that the site is “dedicated to copyright infringement.”

The government has already wrongly shut down sites without any recourse to the site owner. Under this bill, sharing a video with anything copyrighted in it, or what sites like Youtube and Twitter do, would be considered illegal behavior according to this bill.

According to the Congressional Budget Office, this bill would cost us $47 million tax dollars a year — that’s for a fix that won’t work, disrupts the internet, stifles innovation, shuts out diverse voices, and censors the internet. This bill is bad for creativity and does not protect your rights.

Do you part and spread the word, Via Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, and write to your government to say don’t let this bill pass. This bill will not stop pirates and will only damage websites, both big and small, spread the word.

In case you are wondering how this effects us, WWE and TNA could claim copyright infringement on reviews and articles, without actually reading our material, and the web host that runs Wrestling Rambles (WordPress) would be in direct danger, since this bill puts more pressure on the webhost based on user content, WordPress would be facing massive fines, and start shutting down in fear of these fines. WordPress can be used by anyone, and with the amount of users they have, they will not spend the time looking at Everyone’s post, and just might take the action of direct shut down.

This Act effects us all. Stand up for your sites.
