Am I the only one that doesn’t care for the PPV this Sunday? I used to love Elimination Chamber matches due to the violence, the blood, lots of bumps on the steel etc.. The first Chamber match at Survivor Series 2002 tops them all as being the greatest Elimination Chamber match of all time. It was Triple H vs. Booker T vs. RVD vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Kane. vs. Chris Jericho. There were 2 jumps from the top of the pods, 2 broken glass chambers, 3 people were bleeding, lots of bumps on the steel and Triple H even sustained a real injury. It was also the longest Chamber match in history. It lasted a total of 40 minutes and was played out fantastically. It was quite possibly the biggest star studded Chamber match of all time as well. This match seemed important, it made you want to spend your money to watch the event.
Fast forward to now, what is actually making you want to spend your hard earned money to buy this PPV? This gimmick match is losing it’s flavour, we’re in an era of the WWE where there’s no blood, little violence, so how are the Elimination Chamber matches coming up this Sunday going to be gruesome, dangerous etc..? You know…. exactly what the Elimination Chamber match portrays, or should. The answer to that question is it can’t be as long as the WWE are a family friendly product we’re not going to see matches like we did in Survivor Series 2002, so why should I spend my money? I don’t see why I should and I’m not going to.
Last years Elimination Chamber match….I can’t even remember who won it or who was in it even. The match just doesn’t interest me any more. Perhaps I’m the only one who feels this way but I don’t think I am. I’m not saying I don’t want to watch it, I’m just saying I’m not going to be spending my money on it.
I guess I want to know if whether or not if I am the only one who feels this way, what are your thoughts? Are you going to pay for this? Are you excited for it? Please let me know.
This is what happens when you have match concept ppvs. The overuse of the match devalues it, add to that the product restrictions.
I have to work Sumday night, so no, I won’t be watching. Even if I could, I certainly wouldn’t pay for it. I don’t expect much out of either Chamber match, and the Ambulance match most likely will not live up to it’s name. Oh, and now since the Royal Rumble, I’m paranoid that they’ll swerve for the sake of swerving, and screw up ‘Mania.

I agree. Just like the other PPVs, this one wasn’t booked that well, IMO.

Yea, completely devalues the match concept. The Ambulance match, well what are they going to do that we haven’t seen before? I hate complaining so much because I do love watching it but if they expect me to spend money for it and overuse stuff I’ve seen a million times before, then I can complain.

When’s the last time we had a an ambulance match?

I want to see if they let Kofi do some crazy shit.

I do too, I’m sure they’ll let him jum off a pod into the ring or something. It’d be cool if they let him climb around the top of the cage from one side to the other, at least it’d be something new.

He’ll reveal himself to be Spider-Man.

The last three Smackdown Elimination Chamber matches have been very good.

I can see Santino somehow getting attacked by Henry or even Orton before the match begins.

Actually, I’m curious to see how Santino might perform in the Chamber.

Agreed!

Sadly, I can see him getting killed by Henry or Orton but I’d love to see him in it, I’m sure he’d be good.

I don’t see the point in watching when I’m guessing the Raw right after will be more exciting and start off with a few surprises. They wedged it in a little too quick after RR.

Agreed, Raw will be way more exciting. From next Raw on…it’ll be ALL WM hype. Can’t wait.

I feel both chamber matches should be good. I’m really interested to see the story of Punk-Jericho progress and all the competitiors in the Raw chamber should be able to produce an excellent match.
I’m a bit more worried about the SD chamber, but it could be good as well. I just have no idea what WWE was thinking to even entertain the fact that Santino is capable of hanging at the main-event level. This HAS to be some kind of swerve! Lol
I also feel the current chamber matches lack the intensity and drama that earlier ones did. I guess that’s the consequence of having themed PPVs (and look at how that concept killed the Hell in the Cell match).

There is defintaly a swerve somewhere, their has to be!
Most of the match concept gimmicks have killed the PPV IMO.

Santino can bump so he might not be that bad in this type of match.

@Capt Last ambulance match was in 2003, Kane vs Shane McMahon.

Cool. The reason I was wondering is because I’ve heard people saying that having too many ambulance matches has hurt how “special” it is. But if the last one was 9 years ago, that doesn’t seem to frequent to me.

Hopefully WWE won’t have an Ambulance match PPV 🙂

I think Santino is great but he’s not build for this match and it hurts it IMO. He’s the funny/comedy guy, not a badass wrestler in dangerous matches.

But he deserves the chance to show what he’s got. Plus, you can’t argue with somebody being over. He is and should make the match get more heat with the crowd.

He does derserve it, no doubt.
WWE asked on twitter is ”Christian Chamber Bound?” and wrote an aricle on WWE.com. So he’ll possibly be there so he could jump Santino. It would get massive heat.

I doubt it would get too much heat. Christian is beloved by the smark crowd. I’d have Christian take out Khali.

On last year’s Elimination Chamber: I recall the Smackdown one being very good, and Drew McIntyre having a cracking showing. All downhill since then for the poor lad.
On your remarks RE the first Elimination Chamber, the issue of bleeding is a real double-edge sword. In some ways I’m pleased they aren’t cutting themselves with blades all the time in the WWE anymore, but the lack of blood has taken some drama away from cage matches such as the Elimination Chamber, it must be said.
Would be great to see Christian tonight, by the way!

I never want ANY wrestler to get hurt or draw too much blood, I’d rather them be all healthy and stuff. But yea, it’s the drama impact it has on the match.
Yea, I can see Christian or ADR returning. Possibly ADR before Christian, don’t know why, something about Christian and returning tonight doesn’t make sense to me.

Well, you were right there, ADR returned before Christian! (albeit a few mins, but he was before haha 😉 ).

The crowd definitely was behind him. The crowd from the bar I went to was popping big time when he eliminated Rhodes and his showing with Daniel Bryan

It seemed as if he got one of the loudest pops of the night, the reaction to him leaving his pod, and when he hit the cobra sounded pretty damn loud to me.

I think it was an okay PPV. Great ending with Cena looking strong for the great one. Kane did his job well, credit is due to Kane too.
Santino was amazing, I’m just a little…not annoyed but a little disapointed that there wasn’t much build for him but there wasn’t a chance with the little time to build him really. I knew Santino was a great wrestler, just his build going to it didn’t get me exited as the chamber is meant to be that dangerous match, which his characther isn’t build for. However, utmost respect for his class performance.
Diva’s match – Went for a crap, came back…OVER. lol
Like what they’re doing with Jericho although his spot didn’t really seem believable enough but the right intentions were made aware of. Jericho will come out on RAW and hopefully have a cracking promo ranting on how he was unfairly put out of the Chamber match, Punk will ”Save us” and will get a huge pop. This will lead to an official announcement for their match at WM. John L should announce that, help get the heat on Jericho as John L will agree with Jericho.
Glad the two champs came out champs. Looking forward to RAW, I might stay up for it tonight, but I had a long day today so IDK. Exciting few weeks ahead, lots of time for build to Mania’ so should be in for a rollercoaster ride!
