Update on Sabu

As reported earlier, TMZ claimed that Sabu had an allergic reaction to a medication which caused him to be rushed to the hospital on Saturday.

Sabu did not appear at the Reunion Fanfest early in the day which he was scheduled to attend, according to PWInsider.com. Sabu at the time was last seen the night before hanging with a number of wrestlers. Apparently Justin Credible tweeted a photo of an unconscious Sabu the night before. Shane Douglas and other Reunion officials went to check up on Sabu, but he was already being transported by EMTs.

At this time there is no update on his health. However, tweets and Facebook comments stating he is dead are absolutely FALSE.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WWE SHAREHOLDERS MEETING

Here are highlights from Friday’s WWE shareholders meeting:

– Vince McMahon spoke for 7-8 minutes off the cuff. He said that the only two things in life that are guaranteed are death and taxes. He said there are actually three things because he guarantees that one year from now, the company will be in way better shape than it is now. He said there were two reasons, the film department and TV licensing, noting that they, by choice, kept two hours (NXT & Superstars) off the air and thus didn’t get any U.S. rights fees for those two hours. He claimed ratings for Raw were up 3% and Smackdown up 15%.

– CFO George Barrios talked about the financials, saying that 95% of what was wrong this past year was the film division and TV licensing. He said the film division would be changing. They will be doing PG-13 and money movies, more action, crime, sci-fi and thriller movies. He claimed for for every WWE fan who watches a WWE movie, there are four people who aren’t WWE fans who watch WWE movies. Hey, he said that, explaining how the movies expand the audience.

– They said that the new movies would be 50/50 partnerships with existing movie studios and they would be doing more movies that either had no wrestlers in them, or the wrestlers would have light support roles.

– When asked why they think they could pull off a network when Oprah couldn’t, Vince said that Oprah was about her TV show and she didn’t put her TV show on her network. Why would anyone care about her network if she doesn’t put her show on? He said the start date of the network was delayed because they didn’t want to make the mistakes Oprah made. He said he couldn’t tell you when the network would launch because we don’t know for sure, hopefully by the end of the year, that’s the plan.

– When asked if they were dropping Classics on Demand, Vince said “Most likely.”

– When asked about PPVs moving to the network, he said they may or may not be.

– When asked about developmental, they said a big announcement would be coming soon.

– When asked if they would switch from PG programming on television, Vince said “Absolutely not.”

– The falling stock price wasn’t talked about much, but Vince said that if he had the money, he’d be buying shares at this price. Actually, he does have the money. He said the price was down because of the uncertainty about the network.

– One person asked, since they always say WrestleMania is their Super Bowl, to follow the lead of the Super Bowl and put it on free television and make money from the ad revenue. “Why would we do that? That makes no sense to our bottom line to do that.” Vince noted they just came off their most successful money-making WrestleMania and said that the Super Bowl would move to PPV if they were allowed to do so.

– They also said they would be announcing the new star of “The Marine” shortly.

CODY RHODES INTERVIEW

Pads & Panels is featuring an interview with Cody Rhodes. Here are some highlights:

On working with someone the size of Big Show: “I’ve had to adapt my style completely, which has been a challenge. I knew entering that getting in the ring with someone like the Big Show is going to be different from getting in the ring with somebody like Randy Orton or Kofi Kingston. It has been, honestly, of all the things I’ve done in my career, this match with the Big Show coming up at Extreme Rules and the match we had at WrestleMania have been the biggest challenges for me. Wrestling a giant, in the history of WWE or pro wrestling or sports entertainment, has always been difficult. Hulk Hogan – it was difficult for him. And it’s been difficult for countless other superstars and guys who have been in there. For me, regardless of how I feel about him, because I genuinely hate the Big Show, I have the utmost respect for – he is ridiculously athletic for his size, ridiculously. Khali is a giant who if you get so close to him he’ll swat you down, but there are some weaknesses you can take advantage of. Big Show doesn’t have any weaknesses.”

On not knowing the stip against the Big Show tonight and matches he would like to have: “There are certain matches that are just a boyhood dream. I’d love to do a bull rope match. It’s a match that my father put on the map. I’d love to do a leather strap match. I watched some of my favorite guys growing up in leather strap matches, from Sting to Stone Cold Steve Austin. And I always wanted to do one of those. I’m just hoping it’s something that the odds are not horribly out of my favor or do something the fans are going to chuckle at. I’m hoping it’s not like a Lights Out match, where you wear the mask over your face.”

On working angles with his father: “They’re great. When he came out to induct the Four Horsemen, I teared up a little bit, just at him, because he still has everything that he had when he was a performer; he’s just gotten older. It’s cool to see. He’s always on. And it’s funny when he comes to do stuff on Smackdown or Raw and he comes to help me out, because that’s genuinely what he’s there for. Regardless of what you see, he’s helping out. I just always enjoy – regardless of the way things are proposed and you assume something is going to go, he always adds his own things in there. So you have to be very much on your guard when you’re in there with him.”

On The Rock and Brock Lesnar’s recent returns: “Well, I mean, I walked into The Rock’s dressing room at WrestleMania and thanked him for the number of people who were there that night and the number of people who ordered it on pay per view. I have such respect for The Rock. And now with the return of Brock … it’s completely different than The Rock. But for me, it kind of just made me angry and not in a way like, ‘Oh, blast. They get to be on another pay per view.’ More in a way that – I’m out there working. I never take a day off. I never plan on taking a day off. I’m so in love with the wrestling business I couldn’t see myself going away. And these guys have that ability to come back in because they have that presence, they have that following and are just automatically accepted as superstars again. So there’s something to learn and something to be kind of irritated from that whole Attitude Era generation, but I get it from both the good and the bad.”
