One of the well known headlines going around today is the departure and possible departure of Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin from TNA, respectively. It has already been official Shelley has left TNA but the question is if Shelley will head to WWE. In Sabin’s case, his contract is up in a couple months and the chances of him resigning are pretty slim. This also raises the question of whether or not Sabin will follow Shelley into WWE or whatever endeavor they see fit. This week is a Motor City Machine Gun edition of Remember When.

Do you remember when Sabin and Shelley had their one-on-one encounters in TNA?

The first one took place in August 2006 at the Hard Justice PPV. Sabin’s original opponent was Kevin Nash but due to injury Nash couldn’t compete so he had his running buddy, Shelley, to take his place. That match wasn’t that long, about 8:30 minutes probably but it was definitely a great match given that short amount of time with Sabin walking away the winner. To me, it proved these two had great chemistry and apparently so did TNA because within a year or so they started the MCMG.

The next match happened in January 2009 at Genesis. The X-Division Title was on the line in a tournament. Sabin and Shelley ended up in the finals where the winner would become the new X-Division Champion. In my opinion this was better than their first one. A lot more was at stake and they had more time to tell a better story. This time it was Shelley who not only won the match but became the new X-Division Champion for the first and only time in his TNA career.

What do you folks think of this column? What do you think of the possibility of the MCMG coming to WWE? Can you imagine a Kings of Wrestling/Motor City Machine Guns match in WWE? Feel free to leave your thoughts. Thank you so much for reading and I will see you next time.
