One of the well known headlines going around today is the departure and possible departure of Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin from TNA, respectively. It has already been official Shelley has left TNA but the question is if Shelley will head to WWE. In Sabin’s case, his contract is up in a couple months and the chances of him resigning are pretty slim. This also raises the question of whether or not Sabin will follow Shelley into WWE or whatever endeavor they see fit. This week is a Motor City Machine Gun edition of Remember When.
Do you remember when Sabin and Shelley had their one-on-one encounters in TNA?
The first one took place in August 2006 at the Hard Justice PPV. Sabin’s original opponent was Kevin Nash but due to injury Nash couldn’t compete so he had his running buddy, Shelley, to take his place. That match wasn’t that long, about 8:30 minutes probably but it was definitely a great match given that short amount of time with Sabin walking away the winner. To me, it proved these two had great chemistry and apparently so did TNA because within a year or so they started the MCMG.
The next match happened in January 2009 at Genesis. The X-Division Title was on the line in a tournament. Sabin and Shelley ended up in the finals where the winner would become the new X-Division Champion. In my opinion this was better than their first one. A lot more was at stake and they had more time to tell a better story. This time it was Shelley who not only won the match but became the new X-Division Champion for the first and only time in his TNA career.
What do you folks think of this column? What do you think of the possibility of the MCMG coming to WWE? Can you imagine a Kings of Wrestling/Motor City Machine Guns match in WWE? Feel free to leave your thoughts. Thank you so much for reading and I will see you next time.

I read somewhere today that Sabin wasn’t leaving.

Didn’t watch TNA then so don’t remember, it’s okay because you educated me on it! haha.
Yeah Capt. I read that too. Velvet Sky also tweeted it on twitter.

This Chris Sabin rumor is getting stretched beyond imagination. As far as I know, it’s only been reported by one site that toured it as an exclusive. Velvet Sky denied it’s accuracy, and then reiterated her denial. Watch that word “resigning. It’s tricky and confusing. When you say ” there’s little chance of him resigning with TNA” that could mean two things. Is he resigning( as in renewing his contract) or is he resigning (as in quitting) . Same spelling, slightly different pronunciation, completely opposite meanings. Okay, enough nitpicking for tonight.

I hope you didn’t think that that was a criticism aimed at you. I’m just amazed that this has become such a topic of conversation EVERYWHERE! And all from one unsubstantiated report. Even the site that broke it hasn’t done any kind of follow-up. But, let’s just say for the sake of argument that they both end up leaving TNA. Do you think, considering their lifestyles, that they could last in WWE for any length of time? I just can’t see it. And, pay it no attention. There are VERY few of us out here that are fawless.

I do go to LOP, but don’t instantly buy what they say. I wait to see it at other places first. (411mania, superherohype’s wrestling thread, etc.)

Shelley is negotiating with WWE but he doesn’t want to go to FCW so that might stop any deal. I doubt Sabin will leave anytime soon.

I think it’s a bad move that Shelley doesn’t want to go to FCW. The WWE style is a way different style than any other promotion and if you don’t learn it chances are you won’t go anywhere. Look at Sin Cara.

I think that it’s a bad move that Shelley ‘s even considering going there. It’s far too regimented for a Guy like him. Doubt he could last there.

Capt., My beef isn’t with the LOP staff. I’m just not impressed with their commenters. Too many of them seem to reek of snarkiness and vitriol. That part just doesn’t appeal to me.

FFF, I don’t waist time looking at many comments. The nastiness ruins the mood.
Oh, spot on about snark. It’s ruined culture. I also blame the rise of contarianism. People just want to go against the grain just to be “cool”.
