This past week, I read a column about the Invasion angle and it lead me to this weeks topic on “Remember When”. Today I’ll be featuring one of the “Stars” of the WCW/ECW Alliance. Shawn Stasiak is a second generation Wrestler that had the right tools to be something in WWE. He had a good look, some charisma, and was decent on the mic. But since he was given such crappy gimmicks that rocket never took off and this was one of them.
Do you remember when Shawn Stasiak had his own planet?
It was after the Invasion angle and Stasiak was about to be sent to WWE TV but suffered a knee injury and didn’t compete until the beginning of 2002. Our first exposure to Stasiak was in April 1999 when he debuted as Meat. Meat was the sexual slave of the Diva stable Pretty Mean Sisters (Jacqueline, Terri and later on, Ryan Shamrock). After a few months with them, Stasiak broke away from the group and Wrestled under the Stasiak name. He would be released from WWE at the end of 1999 after recording a discussion between The British Bulldog and Steve Blackman without their permission.
Stasiak would then go on to WCW where he would find his most success. Shawn gained such nicknames as “The Perfect One”, “PerfectShawn”, and “The Mecca of Manhood”. He became part of a group called the “Natural Born Thrillers” and would go on to become one half of the WCW Tag Team Champions. He would also have feuds with such legends as Curt Hennig, Kevin Nash, Bam Bam Bigelow, and DDP. He would remain with the company until it folded in March 2001.
He would be part of the WCW/ECW Alliance during the Invasion angle and we all know how that turned out. Anyway back to the planet thing, It was an early 2002, Stasiak had gotten back from knee surgery, and repackaged with a new gimmick. This character consisted of Shawn looking up at the sky and talking some kind of weird rhyming type promos. Most of the rhyming had to do with his name somehow but it was what it was. Of course, the gimmick never went anywhere and he would be released in September 2002.

Here’s a look at the wacky life of Planet Stasiak
I couldn’t rap my head around who he was so I wikipedia’d (that a word) him. After I saw a pic and the video you posted I remembered who he was. He’s now a chiropractor!

Yeah, his practice is based out of Dallas, I believe.

Didn’t he have a title “match” against the Rock just after 9/11?

Yeah, I believe it was on an episode of Smackdown for WCW Title. It was more of a squash than anything.

It makes a squash match look competitive. Was more Stasiak getting thrown out the ring (twice), Rock Bottomed then pinned. While the Rock stole his manager (Stacy Keibler). Not a good ten minutes in the life of Shawn Stasiak!
