Hi guys, I’m here with a review of this week’s Smackdown and I’d like to start by thanking my Sky+ box for allowing me to record Smackdown and fast forward through the ads and all the Raw recaps. Matches and segments will be rated out of 5. 1= poor, 2= decent, 3= good, 4= very good and 5= great. It is as simple as that. Ok then, let’s get started.
Match: Daniel Bryan v Christian
Winner: Daniel Bryan.
We start this week’s Smackdown with a match. There was some good back and forth early on in the match, namely Christian hitting a nice missile dropkick on Bryan. Both men end up outside the ring and Bryan hits a clothesline followed by a running knee off the apron as they go to commercial. When they comeback Christian has taken control of the match. Bryan starts to make a comeback and goes for a suicide dive but is hit with great right hand by Christian. Both men exchange moves outside then inside the ring. Christian goes for a cross body off the top rope but misses then Bryan goes for a flying headbutt but misses. We get some more back and forth then Christian hits Bryan with a spear for a near fall. Bryan picks up the win by making Christian submit to the Yes Lock.
Match Rating: 3 out of 5.
Segment:
Teddy Long is in his office and Dolph Ziggler walks in. Teddy tells him that he has the night off. Ziggler says that he doesn’t want the night off. Long says that he doesn’t want him to interfere in ADR v Sin Cara because Teddy does not want to get fired like Vickie Guerrero. I thought Booker T was the GM of Smackdown?
Segment Rating: 1 out of 5.
Match: Seth Rollins v Jey Uso
Winner: Seth Rollins.
Jey Uso gets some offence in early on before Rollins takes control. Rollins gets a near fall with a back drop. Jey Uso makes his comeback by doing a version of Hulk Hogan hulking up. Roman Reigns tries to interfere but gets superkicked by Jimmy Uso. Jey hits Rollins with a Samoan Drop for a near fall. Jey goes to the top rope for the frog splash but distracted by Jimmy getting clotheslined by Reigns. Rollins then hits the ropes causing Jey to fall and then Rollins hits the curb stomp for the win.
Match Rating: 2 out of 5.
Match: Chris Jericho v Curtis Axel
Winner: Chris Jericho.
Axel shows some aggression in the early stages. Jericho retaliates with a few chops followed by a dropkick off the top rope. Jericho then goes for a codebreaker but Axel counters and throws Jericho onto the ropes and gets a near fall as they go to commercial. Axel is in control as they comeback from commercial. Jericho makes a short comeback and tries to do the Walls of Jericho but Axel counters and hits him with suplex. Jericho tries another comeback by hitting a crossbody but Axel regains control by hitting a neckbreaker off the ropes. Jericho then hits Axel with an enzuigiri. Both men then end up on the outside and Axel hits Jericho with a clothesline. As Axel tries to get in the ring, Jericho does the codebreaker and Axel falls back out of the ring and gets counted out.
Match Rating: 3 out of 5.
Match: The Miz v Ryback
Winner: Ryback.
Miz gets some quick offence on Ryback to start but Ryback hits him with a powerslam followed by a leg drop, brother. Ryback beats Miz up for a while before Miz makes his comeback by countering an attempt Ryback splash. Miz targets Ryback’s knee. Ryback is down, holding his knee but tells the referee not to stop it. The referee helps Ryback up. Miz talks to the referee and gets clotheslined and shellshocked by Ryback for the win. You should never take your eyes off your opponent.
Match Rating: 1 out of 5.
Segment:
Renee is backstage with my fellow Irishman Sheamus. He basically says that he is going to Randy Orton later on and then he will win Money in the Bank on Sunday and then he will become a 3 time WWE Champion.
Segment Rating: 1 out of 5.
Segment:
Teddy Long is in the ring with all the divas and we’re getting a contract signing for the Kaitlyn v AJ match at Money in the Bank. AJ says that no one cared about the divas division until she won the title (which is very true). AJ then signs the contract. She is left handed by the way. Kaitlyn then signs the contract. AJ reveals she has texts that Kaitlyn sent to Big E when she didn’t know he was her secret admirer. These texts trash the other divas, lol. Kaitlyn takes the phone off AJ but AJ has some more texts on the big screen. Kaitlyn says that she will be champion again and says that AJ will then be sent to a mental institution. We then get a fight. Kaitlyn slaps Big E and spears AJ.
Segment Rating: 3 out of 5.
Match: Wade Barrett v Fandango
Winner: Fandango.
Jack Swagger and Antonio Cesaro are at ringside and Zeb Colter is on commentary. Fandango starts the match by dancing as usual. Lol when Barrett nails him a big boot. Barrett dominates most of the match. Team Rhodes Scholars come out and start arguing with Colter, Swagger and Cesaro. This leads to Barrett getting distracted. Fandango kicks him in the head and rolls him up for the win.
Match Rating: 1 out of 5.
Match: Alberto Del Rio v Sin Cara
A slightly taller than normal Sin Cara comes out and attacks ADR. ADR tries to escape but Sin Cara doesn’t let him and throws him back into the ring and hits him with the ZigZag, Sin Cara then does Ziggler’s taunt. Out comes Vickie Guerrero and she starts screaming. I can barely understand her. She says she wants Teddy Long fired. Once again I thought Booker T was GM? Teddy comes and gets security to remove her.
Segment:
Sin Cara is walking backstage and Teddy Long comes up behind him shouting Dolph. Sin Cara is confused (I bet not for the first time since he arrived in WWE). Dolph Ziggler then appears and tells Teddy in left his phone in his locker and that’s why he’s back and he is now leaving.
Segment Rating: 3 out of 5.
Match: Randy Orton v Sheamus
Both men exchange moves early on. Orton and Sheamus end up outside the ring and Orton clotheslines Sheamus as they go to commercial. When they comeback from commercial Orton has Sheamus in a headlock. Sheamus tries to fight but Orton nails him with a dropkick. Sheamus begins to make him comeback after hitting Orton with a clothesline. They both do their usual moves on each other. Orton gets a near fall with a backbreaker. Sheamus attempts the Brogue Kick but Orton moves out of the way. Orton then attempts the RKO but Sheamus counters. Both men end up on the top rope and end up falling to the outside. Daniel Bryan then comes running and has a ladder. Both Sheamus and Orton make it into the ring and are both hit with the ladder by Bryan leading to a double DQ. Bryan then tries to climb the ladder and get the briefcase but Sheamus stops him and throws him out of the ring. Sheamus then tries to climb the ladder but is stopped by Christian and he tries to climb the ladder but he stopped by Sheamus and both of them end up on top of the ladder, Sheamus falls off the ladder leaving Christian but Bryan then comes in and pushes over the ladder and tries to climb it but gets RKO’d by Orton who then climbs the ladder gets the briefcase (the wrong briefcase I might add).
Match Rating: 3 out of 5.
I thought Smackdown was a decent show this week. I suggest you check out Randy Orton v Sheamus, Christian v Daniel Bryan and Chris Jericho v Curtis Axel if you haven’t already.

Loved the Ziggler/Sin Cara business!

It was good stuff. You could see Ziggler’s blonde hair coming out of the back of the mask.

Yeah and then getting one over on Teddy Long in the back. Plus, Cole was perfect in being “clueless”.

Booker is the GM but he’s been injured for a while so Teddy’s taking over in the meantime. But yes, it was still a little silly and filled with logic holes.
Also I never even thought about Orton grabbing the wrong briefcase. How odd.

I can see them doing a struggle for power between Teddy and Booker.
Yeah, the WWE title contract is the red briefcase and WHC title contract is the blue briefcase.

II’m off SD again. 3 weeks since I watched it properly now I think. IDK why, Raw has been the only wrestling I have kept updated with.

Christian-Bryan was a good match and I liked the AJ-Kaitlyn contract signing. I’m impressed with how much attention WWE has given to a Divas storyline…they should do that more often.

@Ray – The wrestling was good for the most part this week. I can get through Smackdown easier than Impact.
@Tony – Maybe AJ and Kaitlyn’s good match at Payback made them give the feud a bit more attention.

I haven’t been not watching because I think it’s bad. Maybe being away and United just going on tour my mind isn’t on wrestling at the minute. Raw is the only show that I feel I have to watch or I’ll miss out on something.

Plus, the net helps. People can just go and read what happened on the net. You don’t have to watch any of it.

Yep. Especially if you don’t have much time to watch full episodes, you just need to spend 10 minutes reading a review online!
