Night Of Champions, the one night a year where every title is on the line. The WWE Championship will be defended in a six pack challenge match. Wade Barrett originally challenged Sheamus for the title, using the title shot that he is entitled to for winning NXT Season One but the Raw anonymous general manager informed Sheamus and Barrett that they will be joined by Edge, Chris Jericho, Randy Orton and John Cena. Jericho was then removed from the match after he lost to John Morrison but had the opportunity to win his place back by beating The Hart Dynasty in a tag team steel cage match in which he won. The anonymous general manager would late make the match elimination rules where the last man standing takes home the WWE Championship.

Following the reveal that Kane attacked his brother The Undertaker, Kane would go on to challenge The Undertaker for Night Of Champions, putting his World Heavyweight Championship on the line. Undertaker would accept the challenge but would up the stakes, making the match no hold barred. These two brothers meet tonight but is The Undertaker healthy enough to compete? Also from Smackdown, Dolph Ziggler will be defending his Intercontinental Championship against former champion Kofi Kingston. Ziggler and Kingston have been battling over the last few weeks whereby Ziggler has got himself counted out and disqualified, tonight though if Dolph Ziggler gets counted out or disqualified then he will lose his title to Kofi.

The United States Championship will be on the line when The Miz defends against his former NXT Season One rookie Daniel Bryan. The Miz has attacked Bryan on numerous occasions as of late with his newest NXT rookie, Alex Riley. Daniel Bryan made the challenge to The Miz telling him that he could beat him and The Miz accepted. Lay-Cool the current reigning co-Women’s Champions challenged the current Divas Champion Melina to a match to unify the Women’s and Divas Championships. Melina accepted the match but made it a lumberjack match, meaning all of the current WWE Divas will surround the ring. Michelle McCool won a draw to decide that she, not Layla, will face Melina in the match. Layla would then discover that the draw was rigged by Michelle. Will that play into the match tonight?

Also tonight The Big Show takes on CM Punk in a one on one match. This rivalry comes to a head but CM Punk will be battling alone as he has disbanded the Straight-Edge Society following their 3 on 1 loss to The Big Show at Summerslam. Expect the Tag Team championships to be on the line too as in some capacity as every title is defended tonight.

In a dark match prior to the event John Morrison beat Ted DiBiase.

A video package kicks us off highlighting that all of the Championships will be on the line tonight. There are seven championships at the moment but there will be 6 by the end of the night as the two women’s titles merge. The WWE Championship and World Heavyweight Championship matches get hyped.

Michael Cole welcomes us to the Allstate Arena, he’s joined by Jerry “The King” Lawler and Matt Striker.

Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Kofi Kingston – Intercontinental Championship

If Dolph is counted out or disqualified then he loses the Intercontinental Championships. This is the fifth consecutive pay per view that Kofi Kingston has been in the opening match. This is a second PPV match between these two men, they wrestled to a no-contest at Summerslam last month when The Nexus got involved. Kofi is 2-0 at Night Of Champions PPV’s, he retained the US title at last years event and won the Intercontinental Championship the year before. Ziggler is 0-1 at the event following his lost to Rey Mysterio at last years event. Dolph Ziggler is accompanied by both Vickie Guerrero and her NXT Rookie Kaitlyn.

The bell rings and Kofi hits a headlock takedown. Dolph responds with one of his own which Kofi escapers from and nearly hits trouble in paradise. Ziggler attempts to throw Kingston out of the ring but Kofi bounces off the top rope and clotheslines Dolph out of the ring. Kaitlyn sees to Dolph but Vickie sends her to the back. Vickie is jealous of the attention Kaitlyn is getting. Back in the ring and Kofi gets a near fall and then hits some clotheslines and a dropkick. Kingston misses with a splash in the corner and Dolph hits him with a baseball slide for a two count. Ziggler hits a neckbreaker for a near fall and then locks on a camel clutch. Kofi gets out of it and hits a flying forearm but then runs into a big boot. Dolph gets a near fall and then applies a chinlock. Ziggler gets a near fall and then lays in some boots.

Kofi fights back with some right hands of his own but Dolph fights him off and hits a fame-asser before rolling his challenger up for a two count. Dolph applies a chinlock before breaking the hold and hitting an elbow drop to the back of the neck for a two count. Ziggler goes back to the camel clutch and then the chinlock but Kofi fights out of it with right hands. The two men slug it out into the corner when Kofi hits a pendulum kick. Kofi then goes to the top and hits a high cross body for a near fall. Kofi hits some chops and a dropkick and then a Lou Thesz press. Kingston hits the boom drop and then motions for trouble in paradise but Ziggler ducks it and locks on a sleeper! Kofi counters it and hits a rolling side Russian leg sweep for a near fall. Dolph got his hand on the bottom rope there.

Vickie Guerrero pulls Dolph out of the ring and Kofi dives off the apron on top of Dolph. Kofi then slams Ziggler on the outside before rolling him back into the ring. Kingston gets a near fall and then looks for the rolling Russian leg sweep again but Ziggler counters it by locking on a sleeper! Ziggler manages to reverse the hold, locking in a sleeper of his won but Dolph quickly gets out of it. Vickie looks to lay a slap on Kofi but Dolph stops her as Ziggler would lose his title if she’s caught. Ziggler avoids a trouble in paradise and then hits the zig-zag for the win! Dolph wins the match and retains the Intercontinental Championship tonight! Great match to kick things off with.

The Big Show vs. CM Punk

This is the first PPV singles match between these two men. CM Punk no longer has his straight-edge society but he gets a good ovation as he is home in Chicago. Both men fought in matches at last years Night Of Champions event, Big Show won in tag team action whilst CM Punk lost in the main event. Punk gets on the mic before the match and says how he loves Chicago but hates the people. CM Punk hits some kicks in the early going but Big Show knocks him down with a headbutt. Punk can’t take Big Show down as he hits a dropkick so Big Show lays in some right hands and chokes him with his boot. Big Show hits a big chop on Punk, sending him out of the ring before rolling him back in but getting caught with a kick as he tries to get back into the ring. Punk dropkicks Big Show into the ringpost and then hits a running knee to the jaw before hitting a big rolling senton to the outside.

Big Show gets in the ring at the count of nine and CM Punk lays into him with kicks and stomps. Punk hits an elbow drop off the middle rope and can barely get the count of one on the pinfall. Punk hits more kicks and then looks for a springboard clothesline but Big Show hits him with a spear! Big Show then hits the knockout punch for the three! Big Show wins the match with a finish that came out of nowhere really. This match didn’t really feel like it got going. Punk did what he could but it was essentially CM Punk hitting stomps from 5 minutes before getting hit with a big right hand. Decent psychology though and the rolling senton was a great spot.

Josh Mathews is backstage with Chris Jericho who reminds everybody that he beat Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock in the same night. He won a scramble match to win the World Heavyweight championship and won an Elimination Chamber match to win the World Heavyweight Championship again.

Melina (c) vs. Michelle McCool (c) – Divas vs. Women’s Championship unification lumberjack match

The lumberjills are Brie and Nikki Bella, Kelly Kelly, Eve, Alicia, Natalya, Jillian, Layla, Rosa Mendes, Gail Kim, Tamina and Maryse. Michelle has beaten Melina on PPV twice before, last beating her at Night Of Champions last year. Michelle looks to hit a baseball slide as Melina makes her entrance, which she did last year, but Melina hops over Michelle sending the Women’s Champion sliding to the outside. The two girls then lock up and wrestle all the way to the outside. They break it up and Michelle slaps Eve. Layla is not happy that Michelle fooled her into wrestling this match for their team. Back in the ring and Melina lays into Michelle with lefts and rights. Melina looks for a knees off the top but McCool sends her to the outside. The lumberjills leave Melina to get back into the ring. Michelle hits a blockbuster on Melina and then lays in some boots for a one count.

Michelle applies a head scissors, using the ropes for leverage which causes the referee to break it up. Michelle then looks for the facebreaker but Melina counters it. Two of the top ten divas of all time up to now in this match if you ask me. Michelle hits a belly to belly for a two count and then looks for a cheap shot on Natalya so Natalya pulls her to the mat. Melina rolls Michelle up but the referee is distracted by Natalya so Michelle kicks out. Michelle then hits Melina with a clothesline before going after Natalya but all of the lumberjills take Michelle down! Back in the ring and Melina drops Michelle with a dropkick and then running knees to the back. Melina screams and then avoids a big boot but Michelle drops Melina. Michelle pops Melina on the top and looks for something but both divas go crashing to the outside.

Michelle rolls Melina back into the ring and all the divas go after Michelle! Layla gets in the ring but Melina disposes of her. Michelle hits Melina with a running boot and gets the three! Michelle McCool beats Melina tonight to win the Unified Divas Championship! Not a bad match between these two but not one for the purists.

Todd Grisham is backstage with Wade Barrett who says that the wins of change of blowing here.

There’s a video package for Kane and Undertaker next. A fair bit of history between these two.

Kane (c) vs. The Undertaker – No Holds Barred match for the World Heavyweight Championship

This is the 8th PPV match between these two men, equalling the records set by Triple H vs. Randy Orton and Triple H vs. The Rock. The Undertaker has won 5 and they’ve drawn 2. This is The Undertakers first PPV match since Wrestlemania. Kane is 0-1 at Night Of Champions events, The Undertaker makes his Night Of Champions debut tonight. Undertaker is out first and attacks Kane during his entrance. Undertaker lays into Kane on the entrance ramp and the stage. Undertaker then throws Kane off the stage and into a pillar that makes up the set. This match already has an “attitude era” feel to it. Kane fights back, hitting his brother with right hands but Undertaker chokes Kane. Undertaker hits Kane with right hands and continues to choke him. Kane boots Undertaker down the ramp but Undertaker fights back with right hands and headbutts. Kane throws Undertaker into the ring steps and then lays in some boots.

Kane smashes Undertaker into the ringpost, the match hasn’t actually made it into the ring yet. Kane grabs his World Heavyweight Championship title and hits his challenger with it. Kane rolls The Undertaker into the ring and then heads to the top and hits a flying clothesline. Kane hits a legdrop for the first two count of the match. This is arguably the best run of Kane’s career. Kane hits a couple of splashes in the corner for a two count and then hits a running low dropkick before pulling Undertaker out of the ring and smashing him into the announce desk. Kane pulls the top off the announce desk and throws it at his brother. Undertaker reverses an Irish whip, sending Kane into the ring steps. Undertaker hits a legdrop on the apron and then clotheslines Kane over the barricade. Undertaker then leaps over the barricade onto Kane before hitting him with right hands. Kane swings a chair into Undertakers ribs and the two men then battle into the crowd.

Undertaker hits Kane with a can of coke a couple of times, I guess that would hurt. Kane fights back and hits Undertaker with a knee to the face. Kane leaps off the barricade with a right hand as the two battle back to ringside. In the ring and Kane hits lefts and rights until Undertaker builds up the strength to hit some right hands of his own. The two brothers slug it out and Undertaker hits a big clothesline. Undertaker sets up for a tombstone but Kane reverses it and hits the tombstone himself! He pins The Undertaker and gets the three! Kane beats Undertaker for the first ever time on PPV, retaining his World Heavyweight Championship. A fun no holds barred match between these two men.

After the match the commentators sell Undertaker struggling to make it to the back. Is it the end of an era?

Josh Mathews is backstage with Randy Orton who is not concerned with his five other competitors tonight. Just the one word from Orton.

Tag Team Turmoil for the WWE Tag Team Championships

The Hart Dynasty (Tyson Kidd & DH Smith) (c) vs. The Usos (Jimmy & Jey)

The Hart Dynasty are undefeated on PPV, they have won their first five PPV match. The Usos are looking for their first PPV victory tonight on the third time of asking. Both teams making their Night Of Champions debut tonight. I’m surprised John Morrison and R-Truth aren’t in this match. Tyson Kidd and Jey Uso start the match and Tyson rolls Jey up early. Jey tags in Jimmy and they hit a double backbreaker for a two count. Tyson avoids a splash in the corner and tags in DH Smith who boots both Usos. Smith hits a clothesline on Jimmy and then a belly to belly suplex. Smith then looks for a sharpshooter but Jey pulls Jimmy out of the ring. Smith tags Tyson Kidd who hits an Asai moonsault on both Usos. Kidd pins Jimmy for a two count and then looks to lock on a sharpshooter but Jey breaks it up. Natalya and Tamina get into it on the outside. Jey pins Tyson Kidd and gets the three!

The Usos (Jimmy & Jey) vs. Santino & Vladimir Kozlov

Santino goes right to work on Jimmy, hitting a hiptoss and diving headbutt for a two count. Jey breaks it up but Kozlov gets rid of him. Santino then motions for the cobra but Jimmy hits him with a Samoan drop for the three.

The Usos (Jimmy & Jey) vs. Mark Henry & Evan Bourne

Evan Bourn gets right into it, hitting Jimmy with kicks and a hurricanrana. Jimmy takes Bourne down with a clothesline but misses with a splash in the corner. Bourne tags in Mark Henry and he hits clotheslines on Jimmy and right hands. Jey grabs Henry from behind but Henry disposes of him and then hits the world’s strongest slam on Jimmy. Henry drags Jimmy over to the corner and tags in Evan Bourne who hits air Bourne for the three!

Mark Henry & Evan Bourne vs. Cody Rhodes & Drew McIntyre

This match decides who takes the titles. McIntyre goes right to work on Bourne, taking him down in the corner and stomping on his face. McIntyre tags in Rhodes who hits some right hands. Both of these teams feel like they’ve been thrown together. Rhodes hits a suplex on Bourne and tags McIntyre back in. McIntyre hits an uppercut but Bourne fights back with kicks. Drew hits a clothesline for a two count and then applies an armbar. Bourne hits an arm drag but McIntyre tags in Cody Rhodes who stops Bourne from making a tag. Rhodes gets a near fall and then tags Drew McIntyre back in. Rhodes is 1-1 at Night Of Champions PPV’s, Mark Henry is 1-0. Drew knocks Bourne out of the ring where Rhodes lays into him. Rhodes rolls Bourne into the ring where McIntyre applies a chinlock. Bourne fights out of it and hits McIntyre with knees.

Bourne tags in Mark Henry and McIntyre tags Rhodes. Henry lays into Rhodes with right hands and a headbutt. Henry hits a shoulder charge in the corner and then a splash. Henry hits a gorilla press slam and then tags Evan Bourne back in. Bourne gets up on Mark Henry’s shoulders but Drew McIntyre gets in and fights off Henry. Rhodes then hits cross-Rhodes on Bourne for the three! Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre have won the WWE Tag Team Championships! A fun tag team turmoil match.

There’s a video package next showing Alberto Del Rio, a newcomer to Smackdown. I actually thought he was wrestling Christian tonight.

Next up is a video package hyping up the WWE Championship and tonights main event.

Josh Mathews is backstage with Sheamus who isn’t concerned about losing his title tonight.

Sheamus (c) vs. John Cena vs. Randy Orton vs. Edge vs. Chris Jericho vs. Wade Barrett – Six Pack Elimination Challenge for the WWE Championship

Cena has lost at both previous Night Of Champions events, Randy Orton is 1-0, Edge is 1-0 and Chris Jericho is 1-1. It’s a Night Of Champions debut for both Sheamus and Wade Barrett tonight. Chris Jericho, Edge and John Cena are the only three men in the company to have wrestled on all nine PPV’s so far this year. This is actually Jericho’s 28th consecutive PPV, nobody else can say that currently, he sneaks up on Kurt Angle’s all time record of 34 consecutive PPV’s. Wade Barrett looks for his first PPV victory tonight. Only his second PPV match, both of which have been main events. Lots of heel wins tonight so we could be due a face. Two title changes tonight, the United States and Tag Team Championships have new owners. Orton is the crowds favourite tonight, that’s for sure.

The bell rings and Orton knocks sheamus out of the ring. Jericho and Edge double team Cena as Wade Barrett and Randy Orton go at it. ORton exits the ring and throws Sheamus into the barricade. Jericho throws Cena out of the ring and pins Orton for a two count. Jericho then lays into Orton until Cena gets back into the ring. Cena lays into Jericho after a stare-down and Jericho fights back. Cena hits a bulldog on Jericho and Orton hits Jericho with the RKO! Orton pins Jericho and gets the three! Chris Jericho has been eliminated!

That’s a quick elimination for Jericho who did say that he would leave WWE if he loses tonight. Everybody looks on in shock as Jericho slowly makes his way to the back. The match doesn’t continue until Jericho has gone to the back. Lots of shock there. Cena, Orton, Sheamus and Edge then surround Wade Barrett before ganging up on him. Sheamus and Edge clothesline Barrett out of the ring and the remaining four men pair up. Orton and Cena dispose of Edge and Sheamus and then square up but Wade Barrett gets involved. Sheamus and Edge then help take down Cena and Orton. Barrett directs Sheamus and Edge who don’t take to the orders very well. Sheamus and Edge double team Barrett until Cena and Orton dispose of them. Cena and Orton remain, staring down one another Orton looks for a hangmans DDT but Cena counters, looking for an attitude adjustment but Orton gets down to the apron. Sheamus pulls Orton down, taking out Barrett too.

Sheamus lays into Cena in the ring, hitting him with right hands. Sheamus exits the ring and lays into Edge and then Orton, throwing Orton into the barricade. Sheamus then gets back into the ring and hits Cena with a knee. Sheamus looks for a crucifix powerbomb on Cena but Cena fights out of it. Sheamus then looks for a top rope side suplex but Cena fights him off. Edge pulls Cena down from the top and that looked pretty bad. Sheamus and Edge double team Cena and hit him with a double superplex. Edge pins Cena who kicks out at two. Cena rolls to the outside so Edge and Sheamus turn their attention to Wade Barrett. They throw Barrett into the barricade and then turn their attention to Randy Orton, rolling him into the ring. Sheamus clubs away at Orton and Edge lays in some boots. Sheamus pins Orton for a two count. Orton starts to fire back, hitting Sheamus and Edge with clotheslines. Orton hits Edge with a powerslam but Sheamus takes Orton down.

Edge then turns his attention to Sheamus, hitting him with clotheslines and an Edge-o-cution. Edge looks for a spear but Sheamus side-steps it and hits Edge with a backbreaker. Sheamus motions for a brogue kick but edge ducks it and hits a spear! Orton looks for an RKO on Edge but Edge pushes him away into Cena. Edge spears Orton but Cena hits Edge with an attitude adjustment! Cena pins Edge and gets the 3! Edge has been eliminated.

Wade Barrett immediately goes to work on Cena. Barrett hits Cena with jabs and then looks for his finisher, wasteland but Cena counters it and sets up for attitude adjustment but Barrett counters it with a DDT for a two count. Barrett takes some cheap shots at Sheamus and Orton before going back to work on Cena. Cena ducks a right hand and hits two flying shoulder tackles and a side suplex. Cena hits the five knuckle shuffle and looks for the attitude adjustment but Sheamus gets involved. Sheamus and Barrett collide heads, sending Wade to the outside. Cena then locks the STF on Sheamus but Sheamus gets to the bottom rope. The Nexus then flock down to the ring. The distraction is enough for Barrett . to hit wasteland on Cena! Barrett hooks the leg and gets the three! John Cena has been eliminated.

Nexus lay into Orton and then roll him back into the ring. Cena then lays out Otunga and Tarver with chairs and Orton hits RKO’s on Slater and Gabriel! Barrett then sets up Orton for wasteland but Orton counters it and hits Barrett with a backbreaker. Randy hits Barrett with an RKO and that’s enough for the three! Wade Barrett has been eliminated.

We’re down to just Sheamus and Randy Orton. Sheamus hits ORton with a brogue kick and hooks the leg but Orton kicks out! It’s amazing how popular Orton is at this stage. Sheamus sets up for the crucifix powerbomb but Orton slides down and hits the RKO! Orton hooks the leg and gets the three! Orton wins the match and the WWE Championship tonight! Great match. They really drag out the post-match, I guess they didn’t want the show to finish too early.

Rating: 8.5/10

And that was Night Of Champions 2010. The show started really well, Dolph Ziggler and Kofi Kingston have a lot of chemistry and put on a really strong match to open the show. Ziggler won the match and retained the Intercontinental Championship which is good, I like Ziggler as champion, it’s still his first run with the belt and I don’t mind it going on longer. This will probably be the end to this feud, it’s been going on a few months and there are plenty of other guys on Smackdown who could go for the belt, like MVP, Jack Swagger and the winner of NXT Season 2, Kaval. Big Show then beat CM Punk, this match wasn’t great. It was mostly CM Punk laying into Big Show and then the big right hand by Show for the win. Again, I think this will be the end of this feud. Show has beaten Punk in singles and in a handicap match at Summerslam so there’s no need for them to continue. This match seemed short and was slightly disappointing. The senton spot was awesome though.

Daniel Bryan beat Miz to become United States Champion. This match was another good match. These two have chemistry although Daniel Bryan is a top wrestler who will have chemistry with anyone. Daniel Bryan winning the title is fine, I guess it leaves Mi to concentrate on cashing in his money in the bank contract. I like The Miz’s relationship with Alex Riley. Michelle McCool then beat Melina to unify both the Divas and Women’s Championships. They teased the ending of Lay-Cool but it wasn’t to be, Layla helped Michelle win. Not a bad match. Kane beat The Undertaker clean which I was surprised about. Undertaker sold injuries so I’m sure that’s the excuse they’ll give but this is the first time Kane has beaten Undertaker on PPV so it’s a pretty big deal. I think this feud will continue and with Hell In A Cell next month I think I can guess the gimmick they’ll go with. Decent match.

Tag Team Turmoil was next and I always enjoy this type of match. I was surprised to see The Hart Dynasty eliminated first, that’s a big rub for The Usos. The Usos then quickly went through Santino and Vladimir Kozlov before being eliminated by Mark Henry and Evan Bourne. It was then very obvious if you had been following Smackdown that Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes were taking the belts. I would have liked to have seen John Morrison & R-Truth and The Dudebusters in this match. Not sure how I feel about Rhodes and McIntyre as champions, it feels like it’s halting both of their pushes. Very much a thrown together team. Entertaining enough match.

I loved the main event. It was booked perfectly. Jericho being eliminated and then everybody watching as he walked slowly to the back was great. It made it feel huge that Jericho had been eliminated. Edge was next to go, he didn’t get the same fanfare. John Cena was third to go because of The Nexus so that feud will continue for at least another couple of weeks. Barrett was eliminated and then Sheamus to crown Randy Orton as the new WWE Champion. Orton is really over right now as a babyface. I like this title switch a lot. Orton has plenty of challengers with Wade Barrett, Sheamus, Edge and Chris Jericho so he’s a good choice for champion. Great main event and arguably the best PPV of 2010 so far.
