Tables, Ladders & Chairs. That’s the theme for the annual December pay per view and despite a few bumps in the road, the show goes ahead tonight will all of the furniture. Originally the WWE Championship was scheduled to be on the line with CM Punk defending against Ryback. However during a brawl between the two men that resulted in Ryback powerbombing Punk through a table, CM Punk would injure his knee and require surgery. That means CM Punk is unable to wrestle at TLC and instead Ryback teams with Team Hell No to take on three men that have attacked them on multiple occasions, The Shield in the first ever 6 man tag team tables, ladders and chairs match. The Shield make their in-ring debut after attacking multiple members of the WWE roster and it’s Ryback, Daniel Bryan and Kane who look to put an end to their antics.

The World Heavyweight Championship is also set to be defended tonight and after Sheamus attacked Big Show at Survivor Series with a chair following a loss in their match by disqualification, a match has been made between the two tonight in a chairs match. Big Show has goaded Sheamus over the past few weeks after their no-contact clause which meant they could not touch one another until TLC. Big Show would attack William Regal again with Sheamus helpless. The third main event for this show is a ladder match scheduled between John Cena and Dolph Ziggler. Vickie Guerrero and Dolph Ziggler revealed the “affair” between John Cena and AJ and since then Cena and Ziggler have been at each others throats. To up the ante in this match Vince McMahon forced Vickie Guerrero into making the match a ladder match with Dolph Zigglers Money In The Bank briefcase at stake.

There are four other matches scheduled for tonight. Kofi Kingston defends the Intercontinental Championship against the man that has pinned him twice over the last few weeks, Wade Barrett. Barrett even eliminated Kofi during their traditional Survivor Series match last month. R-Truth has also pinned Cesaro which has lead to another title match between those two men tonight. Eve will find out on the pre-show who she will be defending her Divas Championship against tonight as a battle royal will determine who gets a shot at the WWE DivaS Championship. Also tonight will be a tag team match to determine number one contenders to the WWE Tag Team Championships as Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara battle the winners of a fatal four way tag team match, Team Rhodes Scholars.

In a dark match prior to the event JTG defeated David Otunga.

And in the pre-show Santa’s Little Helper Battle Royal to determine a number one contenders to the WWE Divas Championship, Naomi won after eliminating Kaitlyn.

The pay per view starts with the bell being tolled 26 times for the victims of the Sandy Hook shooting.

There’s no audio on the signature which is different, presumably in respect to the victims of the shooting. A video package then plays, first focusing on Sheamus and The Big Show and then John Cena and Dolph Ziggler and finally the 6 man tag team match.

Michael Cole welcomes us to the final PPV of the year.

Team Rhodes Scholars gains the upper hand on Sin Cara.

Sin Cara & Rey Mysterio vs. Team Rhodes Scholars (Cody Rhodes & Damien Sandow) – Tables match to determine number one contenders to the WWE Tag Team Championships

This is a first time PPV match between these two teams that did meet in the finals of a number one contenders tournament a couple of months ago. Rey Mysterio is 0-1 at TLC PPV’s, Cody Rhodes is 1-0 and both Sin Cara and Damien Sandow make their TLC debut tonight. Sandow and Rhodes, who is now sporting a moustache, run down the “hipster” crowd and their opponents before the match. A “Cody’s moustache” chant breaks out before the bell and as the bell rings, all four men go at it. Rey Mysterio takes down Sandow whilst sin Cara pairs off with Cody Rhodes. Rey then hurricanrana’s Rhodes out of the ring before he and sin Cara dispose of Sandow. Rey and Sin Cara hits a double baseball slide on Sandow and then pull a table out from under the ring. Sin Cara and Rey Mysterio smash Rhodes with the table and then hit a double low dropkick to Sandow before hitting him with the table.

Mysterio and Sin Cara set up a table in the ring and lay Damien Sandow on it but Rhodes makes the save. Cody then throws Rey out of the ring before double teaming Sin Cara. Cody and Sandow look to double suplex Sin Caras through a table but Cara counters and then hits a big arm drag on Rhodes. Rhodes comes back with the disaster kick on Sin Cara as Sandow throws Mysterio into the ring post. Rhodes throws Cara out of the ring and Sandow goes back to hitting Mysterio with right hands. It’s all Team Rhodes Scholars at the moment as Sandow pulls another table out from under the ring. Rhodes traps Sin Cara in the ring steps and Rhodes Scholars then rams a table into the steps. Sandow launches Mysterio into the barricade and Rhodes pulls another table out from under the ring. Sandow and Rhodes lay Mysterio and Sin Cara on tables outside the ring and Rhodes looks as though he’s going to jump out at them but Mysterio stops that from happening.

Mysterio hits a seated senton on Rhodes and a DDT on Sandow. Rey then hurricanrana’s Rhodes out of the ring before hitting him with a seated senton. Sin Cara hits a springboard elbow on Sandow and then a hurricanrana. Sandow falls to the outside and Sin Cara hits a corkscrew plancha out at him. Rhodes looks for an Alabama slam on Mysterio but Rey counters and then hits a 619! Rhodes falls back onto a table so Rey goes to the top but Sandow crotches him up there. Rhodes and Sandow sent Rey to the outside but Sin Cara then disposes of Rhodes. Sin Cara hits Damien Sandow with a kick and then looks to springboard but Rhodes comes from nowhere and pushes Sin Cara who crashes through the tables on the outside.  Sin Cara looks hurt again. Team Rhodes Scholars win the match and become number one contenders! A good match to start off the show.

There’s a Shield promo, I like the way these are shot. Low quality on a handheld camera. They’re ready for Ryback and Team Hell No tonight.

The champion uses his strength to control the early portion of the match.

Cesaro (c) vs. R-Truth – United States Championship match

This is a second PPV match between these two men, Cesaro beat R-Truth at Survivor Series last month. Both men make their TLC debut tonight. Truth takes Cesaro down in the early going and mocks the United States Champion. Cesaro fires back and knocks R-Truth down for a one count. Cesaro applies a headlock but Truth fights out of it and rolls Cesaro up for the first near fall of the night. Truth gets another near fall and then hits a headlock takeover but Cesaro gets out of the headlock with a side suplex. Cesaro hits a double stomp and then a headbutt. A “USA” chant distracts Cesaro and allows Truth to hit some right hands but Cesaro takes him down and applies what looks like a million dollar dream. Cesaro breaks the hold and then smashes Truth off four turnbuckles but Truth no-sells and blocks a fifth before hitting Cesaro with clotheslines and a corkscrew elbow.

Truth hits the scissors kick for a near fall and then hits a big dropkick for another near fall. Cesaro counters a suplex and hits an uppercut to the back of the head before hitting the neutraliser for the three! Cesaro retains his United States Championship again!

Rating: 3.75/10

Matt Striker asks Cesaro how he feels about the bad reaction he is getting from the crowd. Cesaro says that he is the greatest United States Champion in history and by booing him, they are booing their own country.

There’s a VT of some of the US troops sending out Touts.

John Mathews is backstage with Dolph Ziggler. Ziggler isn’t happy about having to defend his Money In The Bank briefcase. Ziggler claims that if he wins tonight then Cena’s career should be over. Dolph says that tonight everything changes.

The Miz is out next is a suit. He’s not scheduled for a match tonight but we have a special edition of Miz TV. Miz introduces his guests for tonight….Heath Slater, Jinder Mahal and Drew McIntyre…3MB. McIntyre says that 3MB are better than Jay Z. Slater says that The Rolling Stones wish they could rock out with 3MB. Heath then says that at the Slammy Awards tomorrow night 3MB will perform live. Miz says that will be the official bathroom break. Jinder says something about the Spanish announcers not being able to speak English. Heath then leads 3MB out to the Spanish announce table and tells them to speak American. McIntyre shoves the commentators over. Ricardo Rodriguez then comes out and tells them to stop so 3MB turn their attention to Rodriguez. Alberto Del Rio then turns up and takes out 3MB! Eventually the numbers become too much and 3MB take Del Rio down and throw him into the ring, shoving The Miz out of the way. The Miz then takes out slater and Jinder. Del Rio disposes of McIntyre. Slater challengers Miz and Del Rio to find a partner and take on 3MB tonight! Miz accepts. A “we want Ryder” chant breaks out.

Kane and Daniel Bryan are backstage. Bryan has spoken to Ryback and they’re all on the same page. Bryan is annoyed that Ryback repeats himself over and over again. Kane says that if ryback is hungry then they will feed him Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns. Cue the yes chant from Daniel Bryan.

Matt Striker is backstage with Wade Barrett. Barrett is supremely confident of beating Kofi Kingston tonight.

Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Wade Barrett – Intercontinental Championship match

This is a first time PPV match between these two men. Kofi Kingston is 1-2 at TLC PPV’s, Wade Barrett is 0-2. Barrett starts the match with a big powerslam and then applies a front facelock. A “let’s go Barrett” chant breaks out as Wade forces Kofi into the corner and then hits a snapmare. Barrett applies a headlock but Kofi pushes him off and hits an elbow and dropkick for a two count. Barrett clotheslines Kingston out of the ring and then looks to throw him into the apron but Kofi rolls into the ring and then hits a suicide dive on his challenger. Back in the ring and Wade floor Kofi with a kick and then hits a pump handle slam for a two count. Barrett hits a backbreaker for another two count and then applies a surfboard stretch. Kofi hits a pendulum kick, a much better version than Christian’s. Kofi hits a cross body but Barrett rolls through for a near fall. Kofi then rolls Wade up from nowhere for a near fall. Barrett hits a spinning side slam for a two count and then motions for the bullhammer elbow but Kofi counters with trouble in paradise for the three! Kofi Kingston retains the Intercontinental Championship tonight!

There’s an ad for the new WWE app.

CM Punk and Paul Heyman are up in their own personal skybox. Punk and Heyman refuse to give a status update on Punk’s injured knee. This is the first PPV in two years that CM Punk isn’t wrestling on. Punk then says that all the people in attendance tonight are just like Ryback, dumb. Punk says that he would’ve beaten Ryback tonight anyway. Punk says he is a fan of The Shield but not affiliated with them.

All three men hit Ryback with chairs and The Shield then lay Ryback on a table at the top of the entrance way.

Rollins climbs up a huge ladder but Ryback rolls off the table and chases Rollins up the ladder. Ryback pushes Rollins off the ladder and he flies through a few tables. Ambrose and Reigns meanwhile are laying into Daniel Bryan in the ring. Reigns hits a top rope powerbomb on Bryan through a table and that’s enough for the three! John Cena vs. Dolph Ziggler – Tables, ladders and chairs match for the Money In The Bank briefcase

This is a first time PPV match between these two men. Both men have a 1-1 record at TLC PPV’s. Cena gets the first knockdown in, running right through Dolph Ziggler. Ziggler fires back with a headlock but Cena pushes him off. Dolph then does some showing off and Cena laughs at him. A chant breaks out for Ziggler. Cena counters a hiptoss with one of his own and then hits a headlock takeover. Ziggler counters a headlock with one of his own but Cena fights out of it and hits a monkey flip. Cena throws Ziggler out of the ring and takes a bow. Cena looks like he’s bleeding near his eye. Ziggler hits him with a chair and then rolls Cena back into the ring. Ziggler sets up a chair in the corner but turns around into a flapjack from Cena. Cena pulls a ladder out from under the ring but Ziggler baseball slides it into the gut of Cena. Ziggler then looks to set up the ladder in the ring but Cena fights him off, grabs the ladder and smashes it into Dolph’s face.

Cena throws Ziggler over the announce desk and then grabs the ring steps and smashes them off Zigglers face. That looked pretty brutal. Cena pulls a table out from under the ring and slides it into the ring before setting it up. Ziggler drops Cena on the top rope and then sets up a ladder and climbs it. Cena pulls Ziggler down and the two men slug it out. This match has been pretty stiff. Ziggler applies a sleeper but Cena still manages to climb up the ladder with Dolph on his back. Cena eventually falls off the ladder and both men go crashing through a table. Dolph is first up and sets up the ladder again before climbing it. Cena manages to close the ladder and lift it up with Cena still on it! Cena flips the ladder out of the ring and then hits Ziggler with shoulder charges, a side suplex and looks for the five knuckle shuffle but Dolph kicks him in the head and hits a fame-asser. Ziggler pulls another ladder out from under the ring and slides it into the ring. Dolph looks like he’s bleeding down the leg, probably from the table spot.

Cena locks the STF on Ziggler who taps out but that’s not the way to win this match. Cena grabs a ladder and runs at Ziggler but Ziggler hits him with a shoulder charge and the zig zag! Ziggler slides a table into the ring and sets it up in the corner. Cena catches Dolph with a side suplex and a five knuckle shuffle and then sets up for the attitude adjustment but Ziggler counters and hits a DDT. Dolph then grabs a bigger ladder from the outside, puts it in the ring, sets it up and climbs it but Cena climbs the other side and the two men slug it out at the top. Cena wins and Dolph falls to the mat below. Cena slowly climbs but Dolph attacks him from behind. The two men fight to the mat below and Dolph pushes Cena into the ladder. Out of nowhere Cena hits a hurricanrana, sending Ziggler through the table set up in the corner. Cena picks up a ladder but Dolph dropkicks it out of his hands.

Dolph looks to throw Cena into a chair set up in the corner but Cena puts the brakes on. Cena puts Dolph on the top rope but ziggler fights him off and hits a cross body. Cena rolls through the cross body and scoops Dolph up for an attitude adjustment but Ziggler grabs the chair and smashes Cena with it. Dolph clears the ring of the broken tables and looks for a superkick but Cena counters and hits the attitude adjustment which sends Ziggler rolling out of the ring. Vickie Guerrero then shows up with a chair but out comes AJ who takes Vickie down with shoulder charges and a terrible side suplex. AJ hits vickie with the five knuckle shuffle which sends Vickie sprawling out of the ring. Cena then sets up a ladder in the ring and climbs it as AJ skips around the ring. AJ then pushes over the ladder! Ziggler gets back into the ring and hits Cena with a superkick! Ziggler and AJ then stare at one another until AJ smiles and leaves! Ziggler climbs up the ladder and grabs the briefcase to win the match!

Dolph Ziggler wins a match with more questions than answers. Great match between these two.

And that was TLC 2012! Eight matches and it was really hit and miss. There were some really good matches and some really bad ones. It started well, I enjoyed the tag team match between Sin Cara, Rey Mysterio and Rhodes Scholars. Both are good teams but Sin Cara can barely get through a match without injuring himself. I’m not sure if they’ll wait 6 weeks for the Royal Rumble to give Rhodes and Sandow their shot at the titles as it seems a long way away for a match that has already happened before on pay per view and was pretty conclusive. Even if they don’t win the titles it was a good way to get them on the card along with Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara. Cesaro beat R-Truth in a below par match. It was ok but something isn’t clicking between these two so I don’t know why they persist with it. Cesaro needs a step up in competition, there are plenty of talented midcarders like The Miz, Rey Mysterio and Kofi Kingston that I look forward to seeing Cesaro face.

Kofi Kingston beat Wade Barrett to retain the Intercontinental Championship. Kofi won cleanly which suggests that this rivalry is over. This match was ok, nothing special but it did the job. Two solid midcarders doing what needed to be done. Not much more to say about it, Kofi keeps the title, who is up next for him? Then came the six man tag team TLC match. This was a really good match, go check it out now if you have’t seen it before. The Shield got the win which they had to really, they’re a faction on a roll and need a few good wins to get them up and running. The spot with Seth being pushed off the ladder through the tables was really good. The match was chaotic and had a really good pace to it. I hated some of the camerawork though. Daniel Bryan took the fall which was probably the right call as Ryback continues to be pushed and presumably will get a WWE Championship shot at some point.

Eve beat Naomi to retain the WWE Divas Championship in a poor match. Naomi shows a lot of potential but not enough to make this match memorable. It was only three minutes long so I think the girls tried to rush through their stuff. Eve wins and I think she could go all the way to Wrestlemania as champion unless the plan is to get the title on AJ. The Big Show beat Sheamus next and I can’t help but laugh at the giant chair that Big Show pulled out. I liked it though, it was different. Big Show is being booked properly for a change, as a monster heel that can’t be stopped. This match should be the end of this feud so it’ll be interesting to see who is up for Big Show next, there are plenty of main event faces so it could be anyone from John Cena, Alberto Del Rio or Randy Orton.

The Brooklyn Brawler made a big in-ring return next as the mystery partner for Alberto Del Rio and The Miz. It looks like Del Rio is now a face. They beat 3MB in what looked like a match designed to get Alberto Del Rio and The Miz on the card. I’m all for stars of the past coming back for matches and for Steve Lombardi, it meant he got his first ever PPV victory. And in the main event Dolph Ziggler got arguably the biggest victory of his career when he beat John Cena in a ladder match. The big story to come out of this one was AJ Lee costing Cena the match. Is she aligned with Ziggler? Ziggler wins though and has had some big matches over recent months with the likes of John Cena, Randy Orton, Sheamus and Chris Jericho which gets him ready for the main event. Good main event though, second only to the six man TLC match.
