Elimination Chamber returns tonight and there will be one Elimination Chamber match tonight to decide who will challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania. Booker T took it upon himself to decide who would be in the Elimination Chamber match based on who put on good performances on the road to the pay pew view. Randy Orton was the first man to qualify after he impressed Booker T by beating Wade Barrett. Daniel Bryan would qualify after beating Rey Mysterio and Jack Swagger returned and beat Zack Ryder to qualify. Chris Jericho qualified after beating Daniel Bryan, Mark Henry qualified by beating Randy Orton and Kane qualified after he beat Dolph Ziggler. So tonight’s match will feature Randy Orton, Daniel Bryan, Mark Henry, Chris Jericho, Jack Swagger and Kane.

The WWE Championship is set to be defended in a rematch from the Royal Rumble. CM Punk is still claiming to be champion and has even stole the title belt from The Rock. Punk has been kind enough to grant The Rock a rematch for the title and the two men go one on one tonight with the winner going on to Wrestlemania to face the winner of the Royal Rumble, John Cena. Paul Heyman has even successfully negotiated the added stipulation that if The Rock loses the match by count out or disqualification then he will also lose the title. The World Heavyweight Championship will also be defended in a Royal Rumble match as Alberto Del Rio defends against The Big Show. Del Rio is yet to beat Big Show by pinfall and Big Show says that he can’t do it.

There’s a big six man tag team match in store after repeated attacks from The Shield. John Cena, Ryback and Sheamus, the three biggest babyfaces in the WWE, team up to try and take down the undefeated Shield. Also tonight the Divas Championship will be on the line as Kaitlyn takes on Tamina. It’s a depleted Divas division after 9 of the last 10 people released by the WWE have been divas. Eve, Beth Phoenix, Maxine, Kharma, The Bella Twins, Kelly Kelly, Maryse and Gail Kim have all gone in the last 18 months. Also tonight expect a WWE United States Championship match between Cesaro and the man he swung into the barricade repeatedly, injuring his shoulder, The Miz.

On the pre-show Brodus Clay and Tensai defeated Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow.

The show kicks off with a video package that has some really nice graphics. Big fan of the New York Wrestlemania logo in the background of the bridge signifying the road to Wrestlemania. The package focuses on the Elimination Chamber match, the six man tag team match and then the WWE Championship match.

Michael Cole welcomes us to New Orleans.

Del Rio plants Big Show to the canvas with a crushing kick to the skull.

Antonio Cesaro (c) vs. The Miz – United States Championship match

This is a first time PPV match between these two men, although Cesaro did beat Miz on the Royal Rumble pre-show last month. The Miz is 2-1 at Elimination Chamber PPV’s whilst Cesaro makes his debut at the event tonight. The Miz is heavily bandaged up after Cesaro swung him into the barricade multiple times last week. Miz hits some jabs in the early going and a reverse elbow before rolling Cesaro up for a two count. Cesaro counters a hiptoss and works the injured arm of Miz. Miz hits a running knee lift but Cesaro hits a nice shoulder breaker. You don’t see many of those shoulder breakers these days. Cesaro looks for a wristlock but Miz blocks. Cesaro hits some knees and a legdrop to the injured arm of Miz before locking on a short arm scissor.

Miz gets out of the hold but Cesaro takes him down with a clothesline for a two count. Cesaro goes back to work on the left arm and shoulder before applying an armbar. Miz gets out of it and hits a big boot before stomping Cesaro down in the corner. Miz hits his trademark corner clothesline and then goes to the top for a double axe handle but Cesaro counters, locking on another armbar. Miz counters and rolls Cesaro up for a two count. Miz then back body drops Cesaro out of the ring and then flies out with a cross body but Cesaro catches him and looks to ram Miz into the ringpost but Miz counters and shoves Cesaro into the ring steps. Back in the ring and Miz hits a chopblock and a dragon screw leg whip. Miz hits a DDT for a near fall and then a low dropkick. Cesaro’s only PPV loss came in the Royal Rumble match last month. Miz looks for the figure four leglock which has been bestowed on him by Ric Flair. Cesaro manages to kick Miz’s leg away and as a result Miz knee’s Cesaro in the crown jewels! The referee calls for the bell! It’s a disqualification win for Cesaro!

The crowd boo that result. After the match Miz intentionally low blows Cesaro!

There’s a video package showing the recent history between CM Punk and The Rock.

If The Rock is counted out or disqualified, Punk wins the WWE Championship.

The Rock (c) vs. CM Punk – WWE Championship match

This is a second match between these two men, The Rock beat CM Punk at The Royal Rumble last month. It’s an Elimination Chamber PPV debut for The Rock whilst CM Punk is 1-2 at the event. CM Punk comes out with not only Paul Heyman but also the WWE Championship belt that he stole form The Rock last week. The bell rings and CM Punk swings a few kicks at The Rock and misses. Punk locks on a headlock which The Rock escapes but Punk knocks down The Rock with a shoulder charge. Punk hits another couple of knockdowns but The Rock hits a couple of arm drags. Punk rolls out of the ring and regroups with Paul Heyman. Back in the ring and the two men face off. Punk slaps The Rock which fires up the WWE Champion. The Rock gets up a beats Punks head off the announce desk before throwing him back into the ring and motioning for a Rock Bottom but CM Punk counters it with a kick to the head for a near fall. Punk throws The Rock out of the ring again and then tells Heyman to distract the referee which he does. Punk then Rock Bottoms CM Punk into the Spanish announce desk and the desk doesn’t give way. The opposite to what happened in their match at the Royal Rumble. CM Punk would win the WWE Championship if The Rock is counted out but he beats the count. Punk hits some right hands and then blows a kiss to The Rocks mum. The Rock hits a Samoan drop and then a big right hand. The two men slug it out resulting in The Rock hitting a big clothesline and a DDT.

And that was Elimination Chamber 2013. It was an up and down show which started pretty averagely, then got really good, then really bad and then finished well. The show kicked off with the World Heavyweight Championship match which was decent but not as good as their match at the Royal Rumble. Del Rio won by submission which was a big win. I think this takes The Big Show out of the World Heavyweight Championship picture for a while. Del Rio is having a good run as a face but I’m not buying it for the long run. Ricardo Rodriguez is likeable in this role but Del Rio isn’t so much. He goes on to Wrestlemania as champion. Cesaro then beat The Miz by disqualification to retain the United States Championship. I’ve not seen a finish like this before, an accidental low blow. This suggests that the feud between these two isn’t over but I’m not convinced it’s got the legs to go all the way to Wrestlemania. I wouldn’t be surprised if this feud was to become a triple threat or even a fatal four way for the biggest show of the year.

The next couple of matches were a lot of fun. It took until all six men were in the match until we got an elimination. Mark Henry then eliminated both tag team champions, could that lead to something at Wrestlemania? A couple of RKO’s helped eliminate Mark Henry and Chris Jericho and then Swagger rolled up Orton on the back of the last fall to win the match. That’s a bit of a shocker if you ask me, I wasn’t expecting Swagger to win and go on to Wrestlemania to face Alberto Del Rio. I like it though, he has a bit of a xenophobe gimmick going on that could work against Alberto Del Rio. I worry that the Americans will cheer Swagger though. Good elimination chamber match. Following that was another good match where The Shield beat John Cena, Sheamus and Ryback. This result surprised me too! That’s a huge win over arguably the three biggest babyfaces in the company. This match was a lot of fun, The Shield are definitely going places but I’m not sure what the long term goal is. This match was a lot of fun though.

Dolph Ziggler then beat Kofi Kingston, two very talented men who generally have great matches when given time. Tonight they weren’t given much time but it gave Ziggler a win. It’s worth having him on these shows just to remind you that is the Money In The Bank holder. Kaitlyn beat Tamina in a nothing match. There was no build, no interest from the crowd and they were given three minutes. The divas division is the worst it’s been in a while as they’ve released all the top stars. No Beth Phoenix, Kelly Kelly, The Bellas, Kharma etc. I can only assume Kaitlyn will defend against AJ at Wrestlemania. The Rock then beat CM Punk to retain the WWE Championship. There was a ref bump which we don’t see much of these days. It was a really good match and honestly The Rock doesn’t look like he’s missed a step. It’ll be Rock and Cena at Wrestlemania but where does this leave CM Punk? Triple threat? We’ll find out soon.
