It’s Not Tender, Loving Care…It’s Tables, Ladders and Chairs. And this years event features a tables, ladders and chairs match to determine a unified WWE World Heavyweight Champion. John Cena and Randy Orton have agreed that there should only be one top champion in WWE and they meet in the main event to determine who will be the first ever unified champion. Randy Orton has the power of The Authority behind him but they are leaving him to handle his business and prove that he is the better man whilst John Cena says that it is a must win match for himself. The Divas Championship is also set to be defended as AJ puts the title on the line against the divas that defeated her in a traditional Survivor Series match last month and pinned her on Raw a couple of times since then, Natalya.
There are two other title matches scheduled for tonight. Damien Sandow defeated Dolph Ziggler to earn an Intercontinental Championship match against Big E Langston. The WWE Tag Team Championships are also set to be defended and it’ll be a fatal four way match as Cody Rhodes and Goldust put the titles on the line against Ryback and Curtis Axel, Jack Swagger and Cesaro and Rey Mysterio and The Big Show. The tag team division is heating up and this is a match I am really looking forward to.
Also tonight are two handicap matches that were made by the Director Of Operations, Kane. CM Punk will battle all three members of The Shield in one match and Daniel Bryan will face all three members of The Wyatt Family in the other. CM Punk and Daniel Bryan have had issues with each group respectively and Bray Wyatt has even tried to recruit Daniel Bryan as a new member of The Wyatt Family.
On the kick off show Fandango defeated Dolph Ziggler.
Triple H and Stephanie McMahon come out to kick off the show. They play up the magnitude of tonight’s main event and the importance of the two titles that are being merged.
A video package then plays, showing the history of the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships.
Michael Cole welcomes us to “what may be the most important night in WWE history”.
CM Punk vs. The Shield (Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns) – 3 vs. 1 handicap match
It’s the first of two handicap matches to kick us off tonight. This is only a second TLC event for CM Punk who beat Alberto Del Rio and The Miz two years ago. The Shield also have a 1-0 record having beaten Ryback, Daniel Bryan and Kane last year. Dean Ambrose starts the match for The Shield but can’t get the better of CM Punk as he tries to keep Punk in The Shield corner. Punk hits a snapmare which frustrates Ambrose. Seth Rollins tags in and CM Punk takes a breather outside the ring. Rollins chases and Punk slides back into the ring. Punk then takes a cheap shot at Ambrose before laying into Rollins with right hands and kicks. Punk hits some shoulder charges and elbows in the corner before dropping Rollins with three neckbreakers for a two count. Punk applies a front facelock but Rollins manages to tag in Roman Reigns.
CM Punk gets the first few shots in on Reigns but Roman throws Punk into The Shield’s corner. Punk fights his way out of the corner but Reigns drops him with a right hand. Reigns tags in Rollins and they hit a double wishbone leg-splitter. You don’t see many of those these days. Ambrose lays in some stomps and then hits a hard Irish whip before tagging Roman Reigns in. Reigns hits a clothesline but Punk fights back with right hands until running into a clothesline. Reigns throws Punk out of the ring and then looks for a spear on the outside but Punk side steps and Roman goes flying over the announce desk. Punk gets a near fall and then motions for go to sleep but Ambrose slips down. Rollins then gets involved and CM Punk hits him with go to sleep! Roman Reigns gets in the ring and looks for a spear but Punk sidesteps and Reigns spears Ambrose! Punk disposes of Reigns and pins Ambrose for the three! Wow, CM Punk wins a 3 on 1 handicap match against all three members of The Shield! A huge win for CM Punk in a fun opener.

This is a first time PPV match between these two girls. Natalya is 1-0 at TLC events, she won in tag team action three years ago whilst AJ makes her debut at the event tonight. AJ is joined by her bodyguard Tamina. Michael Cole incorrectly states that this is Natalya’s first title opportunity in three years. She was in a fatal four way match for the belt at Night Of Champions a couple of months ago Cole. Natalya looks for a quick victory with a roll up but AJ kicks out at 1. Natalya hits a headlock takeover but AJ reverses with a head scissors. Natalya hits a suplex for a one count and then we get some more chain wrestling between these two girls. Natalya hits a firemans carry and applies an armbar. Natalya hits a snapmare and a low dropkick which sends AJ to the outside. Natalya follows but Tamina stops her from catching AJ. AJ tries to attack Natalya from behind but Natalya grabs AJ and throws her into the barricade before rolling her back into the ring.

AJ applies a chinlock but Natalya fights out of it before running into a roundhouse kick from AJ. AJ gets a two count on the cover and then applies a front facelock. Natalya powers AJ into the corner but then runs into the champions boots. AJ lays in the boots but Natalya voids a splash in the corner. Natalya then looks for a powerslam but AJ counters, locking on a front facelock. Natalya powers out of it and then hits a low dropkick. Natalya hits some clotheslines and a northern lights suplex before hitting another suplex and a powerslam. Natalya then locks on the sharpshooter! AJ manages to get out of it and after a distraction from Tamina, AJ locks on the black widow! Natalya gets out of it and hits a clothesline and then looks to lock on the sharpshooter but AJ counters with a roll-up for the three! AJ retains the Divas Championship tonight in a decent match!

The tag team division is thriving right now and these are four of the best teams. No room for The Usos and Prime Time Players. Cody Rhodes is 2-0 at TLC events, Rey Mysterio is 0-2, Big Show is 2-2, Cesaro is 1-0, Jack Swagger is 0-2, Ryback is 0-1 and both Curtis Axel and Goldust make their debut at the event tonight. Ryback looks for a powerslam but Cody slips down the back and hits a missile dropkick before tagging in Goldust. Ryback powers Goldust into the corner and then tags in Axel who takes down Goldust. Axel applies a headlock but Goldust gets out of the hold and hits a dropkick and an armdrag before applying an armbar. Goldust hits a kneedrop and Big Show tags himself in off Goldust. Big Show takes down Axel and works the left arm before hitting a big chop.
Rey Mysterio calls for one more chop and Big Show obliges. The crowd call for another chop and Big Show hits another! Big Show tags in Rey Mysterio who hits some right hands but Axel throws him into the Rybaxel corner and then powerslams him. Axel hits a kneedrop off the middle rope and then tags in Ryback who hits a splash for a two count. Ryback hits some right hands and then tags in Curtis Axel who hits an Irish whip. Cesaro applies a chinlock but Goldust gets out of it and hits a pendulum powerbomb. Goldust disposes of Jack Swagger who in turn takes Cody Rhodes off the apron. Goldust then hits a hurricanrana on Cesaro as Big Show throws Jack Swagger over the barricade. Cesaro boots Rey Mysterio off the apron but turns around into a powerslam from Goldust. Goldust tags in Big Show! Big Show hits Cesaro with clotheslines and a flapjack. Big show throws Cesaro across the ring and then hits a shoulder charge. Big Show sets up for a chokeslam but in comes Swagger and Big Show instead knocks him out. Cesaro comes off the middle rope but Big Show knocks him out and pins him for the three! The Real Americans have been eliminated.
Cody Rhodes is seeing to his partner and Big Show also helps Goldust to his feet. I don’t know why Cody Rhodes didn’t start the next part of the match. Goldust applies a headlock on Big Show who fights out and knocks down Goldust with a shoulder tackle. Goldust falls out of the ring and against Cody sees to him. Big Show pulls Goldust back into the ring by his head but Goldust manages to hit a big boot and a cross body for a two count. This is a first PPV meeting between these two men. Brodus Clay, despite turning heel, is joined by Tensai, Naomi and Cameron. R-Truth has newcomer Xavier Woods in his corner. Clay reverses an Irish whip but runs into an elbow. Truth then hits a missile dropkick for a one count. Truth hits the scissors kick which he has used as a finisher before but it only gets a one count. Clay exits the ring and Truth dives out at him before rolling him back into the ring. Truth heads to the top but Brodus crotches him and then hits a banzai drop! Brodus covers Truth who kicks out at 2. This match has a slow pace to it. Brodus hits two elbow drops and then a legdrop before hitting a right hand to Truth who drops in a crumpled heap.
Brodus lays in more right hands and then hits a t-bone suplex. Clay hits two big splashes in the corner which causes Truth to fall out of the ring. Brodus goes after him and looks to throw Truth into the steps but Tensai tells Clay to finish it in the ring. Brodus doesn’t seem happy but Xavier Woods rolls Truth back into the ring. Clay tells Tensai that he’s better than him and Tensai leaves! Cameron and Naomi also leave! Brodus Clay then turns around into a dropkick and R-Truth rolls Clay up for the three! A big win for R-Truth tonight! Not a great match but a decent story.
Vince McMahon is backstage shaking hands with John Cena.
Kofi Kingston vs. The Miz – No disqualification match
This is a third pay per view match between these two men. Kofi beat Miz in the two previous matches. Kofi Kingston is 2-2 at TLC PPV’s, The Miz is 2-1. Kofi is the only person to have fought on all five TLC PPV’s. The bell rings and Kofi immediately takes down Miz. Miz fires back with some left hands but Kofi counters and beats Miz down to the mat. Miz is first up and hits a clothesline ands then hits his trademark clothesline in the corner. Miz heads to the top but Kofi catches him with a dropkick. There’s a few “boring” chants. There’s a bit of a miscommunication, Miz ducks a trouble in paradise and tries for a figure four but Kofi kicks him into the exposed turnbuckle before hitting trouble in paradise for the three! Kofi Kingston beats The Miz tonight! Not a great match.
There’s an ad for the new Raw 20 DVD.
Promo package for Daniel Bryan and The Wyatt Family next.

Daniel Bryan is 1-1 at TLC events whilst The Wyatt Family make their debut at the event tonight. Bray Wyatt is undefeated on pay per view so far. Daniel Bryan goes right to work on Erick Rowan who starts the match for the Wyatt Family. Bray Wyatt watches from his rocking chair. Bryan lays in some kicks but Rowan reverses an Irish whip and hits Bryan with a reverse elbow. Harper tags himself in and hits some uppercuts but Bryan fires back with kicks and a leg whip. Bryan hits more kicks but Harper hits him with a big slap before tagging out to Erick Rowan. Rowan hits two powerslams and then a running forearm to a seated Daniel Bryan. Rowan then applies a bear hug but Bryan elbows his way out of it only for Rowan to hit a big flapjack. Rowan gets a two count on the pinfall and then tags in Luke Harper. Harper hits an uppercut and right hands and then a sit-out powerslam for a two count.
Bray Wyatt gets out of his rocking chair and Luke Harper tags him in. Bray hits a big splash in the corner and then knees and right hands, beating Daniel Bryan down in the corner. Wyatt hits a suplex and then bridges on his back like a spider, crawling over to Daniel Bryan. So creepy. Wyatt tags in Luke Harper who hits an elbow drop and then a gator roll. Harper tags in Rowan who hits a headbutt and then a fallaway slam. Rowan lays in right hands and then tags in Luke Harper who hits a big boot. Harper tags in Bray Wyatt who talks in riddles. Wyatt offers Daniel Bryan his hand but Bryan slaps it away and then hits Bray with right hands until running into an elbow. Wyatt tags in Harper, telling him to finish off Bryan. Harper hits a sit-out powerbomb for a near fall and then walks over to Wyatt who gives him instructions. There’s a VT next showing the recent history between John Cena and Randy Orton.
John Cena (c) vs. Randy Orton (c) – Match to unify the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships
This is the 8th PPV singles match between these two men, Cena is currently 4-3 up on victories but this is their first singles match in PPV since Bragging Rights 2009 which is over four years ago. John Cena is 1-2 at TLC PPV’s, Randy Orton is 2-1. Cena takes the early advantage with a headlock takeover which Orton gets out of but Cena hits a shoulder tackle. Cena then exits the ring and gets a table but Orton attacks him from behind and then slides a ladder into the ring. Orton sets the ladder up in the ring but Cena doesn’t allow that to happen. He nails Orton with the ladder and then exits the ring and slides a table into the ring. Orton is selling his left arm already. Cena sets Orton up for an attitude adjustment but Orton slides down and looks to throw Cena into the table set up in the corner but Cena blocks. Randy grabs a chair but Cena blocks the chair shot. Orton kicks Cena in the middle section and then nails Cena with the chair a couple of times.
Cena exits the ring and Orton follows with the chair. Cena manages to avoid a chair shot or did he? It looked like he did but sells it anyway. Orton connects with the second shot but misses with the third and hits the ringpost. Cena then uses the chair, hitting Randy with it a couple of times before setting up a table on the outside. Cena sets Orton up for a powerbomb on the outside but Orton saves himself and throws Cena into the ring steps. Orton picks up a ladder and slides it into the ring before setting it up and climbing it but Cena pulls him back down. Orton looked like he had the titles there. Orton hits a dropkick and then a headbutt before stomping on the World Heavyweight Champion. Orton hits a kneedrop and a powerslam but Cena fights back with help from the ladder. Cena then sets up the ladder and climbs it but Orton hammers him down and hits a side suplex.
Orton looks to use the ladder himself but Cena ducks and the ladder flies to the outside. Orton then uses the chair across Cena’s back before setting the chair up between the ropes in the corner. Cena hits a couple of shoulder tackles and a side suplex and then motions for the five knuckle shuffle but Orton kicks him in the head and then throws him into the chair in the corner. Orton sets up the ladder and climbs it but Cena hammers him down and climbs the ladder himself. Cena then dives off the ladder with a five knuckle shuffle! Cena picks the ladder and rams it into Orton’s face, knocking him off the apron and through the table set up on the outside. Cena climbs up the ladder but Orton somehow gets back in the ring, pushes over the ladder and then hits an RKO! Randy hits some headbutts but Cena fights back and clotheslines Orton out of the ring. Cena picks up the momentum, smashing Orton off the ring apron and then ramming Randy wit the ring steps. Cena hits Orton again with the steps.
John Cena slides a table into the ring and sets it up in the opposite corner to the table that is already set up in the ring. He exits the ring and Orton hits him with a microphone before placing the microphone in his trunks. Orton lays Cena over the ring steps and stomps him before laying in more shots with the microphone. Orton takes apart the Spanish announce table (which I have failed to mention is seated at by Ricardo Rodriguez). Orton looks to hit a punt but Cena moves out of the way and hits and then an attitude adjustment through the table! Cena sets up a ladder in the ring and climbs it slowly, he grabs the titles but Orton tips over the ladder. Cena hangs from the steel that holds the titles and Randy lays into him with a chair. Cena hits a spear on Orton through the table and Orton falls to the outside. Randy then rummages under the mats on the outside and pulls out some handcuffs!
Orton handcuffs Cena to the bottom rope but they are long handcuffs so he can probably each a ladder in the middle of the ring. Orton taunts Cena with the key and then throws it into the crowd. Orton exits the ring and grabs a bigger ladder before jabbing it into Cena’s face. Orton sets up the ladder and climbs it but Cena unscrewed the turnbuckle and manages to climb the ladder whilst attached to the bottom rope! Orton pulls Cena down using the bottom rope and I think Cena was supposed to go through the table but he doesn’t, he just hits it head first. Orton then climbs the ladder and grabs the titles and has all the time in the world as he unclips the belts as in announced as the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. After the match Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H come out to celebrate with Orton.
And that was TLC 2013! For the most part it felt like a decent show. I really enjoyed the opener with CM Punk and The Shield, it was a really fun match. I was surprised that CM Punk won as The Shield have had such a huge push over the last year. It makes you wonder whether this is the beginning of the end for The Shield, especially as Roman Reigns accidentally hit a spear on Dean Ambrose. A good match to kick things off. AJ then beat Natalya to retain the WWE Divas Championship. CM Punk and AJ actually had a wedding to go to tonight, hence their matches were first. The Divas division is a little weak at the moment but AJ is a strong champion. I’m not sure who will be the girl to de-throne her but I’d be willing to bet on a Bella seeing as they are such a big part of Total Divas.
Big E beat Damien Sandow to retain the Intercontinental Championship. This was a fairly standard defence for Big E but it was nice to see these two men on PPV. It’s just nice to get different combinations of matches and not the same old. I’m not sure if they have anything big planned for Big E as champion or whether he’ll just have different challengers every month. Cody Rhodes and Goldust retained their WWE Tag Team Championships in a really solid fatal four way elimination match. I liked the booking for this match and like I’ve said on a couple of occasions, the tag team division is really strong at the moment. The four teams involved in this match, The Wyatts, The Shield, Prime Time Players, Usos, Tons Of Funk, Xavier Woods and R-Truth, Los Matadores, 3MB, that’s a dozen teams. Cody Rhodes and Goldust are the champions though!
R-Truth and Brodus Clay was a match I wasn’t expecting and it certainly didn’t steal the show but I like these matches that are used for storyline development. Brodus Clay is clearly turning heel and it looks like it’s over for him with Tensai, Naomi and Cameron. I wouldn’t mind seeing Cameron and Naomi with R-Truth and Xavier Woods going forward. Bros should make a great monster heel. Another match added to the card was between Kofi Kingston and The Miz. This has been an on-going rivalry for a few months and came to a conclusion tonight. Kofi beat The Miz but the crowd didn’t seem too into it. These are two experienced talents who seem to be making a storyline for themselves. I’d expect this to be the end of this rivalry and they can move on to other things. I wouldn’t mind seeing Miz get involved with Big E over the Intercontinental Championship.
The Wyatt Family defeated Daniel Bryan in a 3 on 1 handicap match. I expected this result but this is a really interesting storyline. Bray wants Daniel Bryan as part of the Wyatt Family, will he join? And in the main event Randy Orton beat John Cena to become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. I like this result, Orton has been in a good storyline for a few months to it makes total sense for him to be champion. It was a good match but I think the ending went a little wrong. The idea was there but I’m pretty sure Orton was supposed to pull John Cena through the table rather than just hit his head off it. It probably looked more painful this way though. Good match though and definitely my match of the night. Little fact for you, Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan are the only two men to have wrestled on every PPV in 2013.
